Process

Our process for paid search and shopping

  1. Account audit

We review your existing Google Ads, Microsoft Advertising, and Merchant Center accounts, conversion tracking, and search-term history to find wasted spend and missed demand.

  2. Keyword plan

Keyword and product research sets the campaign structure, budget split, and target CPA or ROAS from your margin data.

  3. Launch

Campaigns, feeds, tracking, and landing pages are built, checked against a launch list, and switched on with conservative bids.

  4. Optimise

Weekly cycles of search-term pruning, bid adjustment, feed fixes, and ad tests move spend toward what converts.

  5. Report

Monthly reports show spend, conversions, revenue, and next steps, with a live dashboard available between them.

How we work

How we run paid search and shopping

01

Intent-first account structure

We group keywords and products by buying intent and margin, not by what is convenient, so bids and budgets can be controlled exactly where it matters.

02

Negatives before scale

Every account launches with a negative keyword library and brand exclusions, and search-term reviews run weekly so spend stays on relevant queries.

03

Bids from your numbers

Targets are set from your real cost of acquisition and margin data, then adjusted in measured steps rather than reactive swings.

04

Feed hygiene as routine

Product feeds are checked daily for disapprovals, price mismatches, and missing attributes, because Shopping visibility depends on them.

05

One test at a time

Ad copy, landing page, and bidding experiments run as controlled tests with a stated hypothesis, so we know what caused a change.

06

Reports that name the cause

Monthly reporting explains why results moved, whether auction pressure, seasonality, or a feed change, not only that they did.

A privately held dental group with 14 clinics across British Columbia and Alberta

Industry
Healthcare
Services
Performance marketing · Paid search & shopping · SEO & content · Analytics & CRO
Duration
9 months (ongoing)
“For the first time I can tell the partners what a new patient costs in Kelowna versus Calgary, and the number is real because it comes from the booking system.”
— Chief Operating Officer, multi-location dental group

Challenge

Each clinic ran its own ads through whichever agency the practice manager had inherited, so the group was bidding against itself on the same keywords in the same cities. Booking forms were tracked as page views, not bookings, which meant nobody could say what a new patient actually cost. Organic traffic went almost entirely to the homepage, then left.

Solution

We consolidated everything into one ad account with location-level campaigns and a shared negative-keyword list, so clinics stopped competing for the same clicks. Analytics was rebuilt to record a booking only when the practice-management system confirmed one, giving the group a real cost per new patient by clinic and by service. We then wrote and structured service and location pages for the procedures patients actually search for, and ran a series of booking-form tests: fewer fields, insurance questions moved after the appointment request, and a phone-first option on mobile.

An outdoor equipment retailer with four stores in Alberta and about seven thousand products online

Duration

“We know which products make us money before we bid on them, which we never did before.”
— E-commerce director, multi store outdoor retailer

Challenge

Paid search was judged on revenue, so the account looked healthy while margin quietly drained into search terms that never converted. The product feed had been generated once and never revisited: titles were internal SKU codes, hundreds of items sat disapproved, and availability went stale during sale weeks. Nobody in the business could say which products were actually worth bidding on.

Solution

We rebuilt the Merchant Center feed with a supplemental feed for titles, GTINs and product types, cleared the disapprovals and wired availability to live stock instead of a nightly export. Campaigns were then restructured by margin band, with Performance Max fed by product sets that share a profitability target rather than one blended goal. Reporting moved into Looker Studio so the weekly number the team reads is contribution, not revenue.

FAQ

Paid Search & Shopping — questions we hear first.

Most accounts go live within two to three weeks of kickoff. The first week covers the audit, keyword and product research, and conversion tracking; the second covers campaign build, feed setup in Merchant Center, and landing pages. Shopping campaigns can take a few extra days while Google reviews the feed. Meaningful optimisation data usually arrives after 30 days, and automated bidding strategies settle after roughly 90 days.

Admin access to your Google Ads, Microsoft Advertising, Merchant Center, Google Analytics, and Tag Manager accounts (or we create them in your organisation's name), a product feed or catalogue export if you sell online, your target cost per lead or return on ad spend, and a point of contact who can approve ad copy and landing pages. If you have historical campaign data, we use it in the audit.

Campaigns run on Google Ads and Microsoft Advertising, with Shopping through Google Merchant Center and Microsoft Merchant Center. Tracking uses Google Tag Manager, Google Analytics 4, enhanced and offline conversions, and consent mode. Reporting is built in Looker Studio. Feed management, call tracking, and experiment tools are chosen per account, and every tool sits inside your own accounts.

Every campaign is tied to conversion actions you agree on, such as leads, calls, purchases, or revenue, with values attached where possible. You receive a monthly report covering spend, conversions, cost per result, return on ad spend, search-term quality, and what we changed and why, plus a live dashboard you can open at any time. Where offline sales matter, we import CRM outcomes so reports reflect real revenue rather than form fills.

You do. Ad accounts, Merchant Center, analytics properties, tags, and landing pages are created under your organisation's ownership, and we work through manager-account access that you can revoke at any time. If we part ways, you keep the full campaign history, conversion data, and all creative and copy.

We plug into whatever you have. Typically we own strategy, build, and optimisation while your team handles brand approvals, offers, and product data, meeting weekly with a shared channel for day-to-day questions. Some clients want us to train their team and hand over; others want a fully managed service. Either way, every change is logged in the account so your team can always see what happened and why.

Management is scoped to the number of platforms, campaigns, products, and markets involved, and to whether landing pages and tracking work are included, so we quote each engagement individually rather than from a rate card. Ad spend is billed to you directly by Google and Microsoft. Request a quote with a short description of your goals and current setup, and we reply within one business day.
