Built for Prince Edward Island

What Charlottetown projects need us to get right.

The local rules and realities we design for from the first call.

01

Privacy: PIPEDA and FOIPP

Prince Edward Island has no private-sector privacy statute, so PIPEDA applies to commercial work, and public bodies operate under FOIPP. We implement consent, retention and access-request handling to fit, and leave the legal reading to your own advisers.

PIPEDA · FOIPP · Retention rules

02

WCAG 2.2 AA from the first screen

Accessibility is built in, not audited on. We work to WCAG 2.2 AA, which lines up with PEI accessibility work and with the Accessible Canada Act where an organisation is federally regulated, and we check contrast, focus and screen-reader output as the build progresses.

WCAG 2.2 AA · Accessible Canada Act

03

English, with Acadian French where it counts

Charlottetown works in English, and the Island has an Acadian French community that some services need to reach. Where French matters we build it as real content with its own structure and its own review, never a machine translation bolted on afterwards.

Where your data lives

Island clients normally get Canadian hosting regions for the database, the files and the backups, plus a written list of every third-party service handling personal information. You own the accounts, so nothing depends on us staying.

Sectors

Who we work with in Charlottetown.

Tourism and hospitality

Inns, tour operators and restaurants need a site that sells the Island in about five seconds and a booking path that survives a phone on rural signal. We build both, then run the campaigns that keep the season busy.

Bioscience

Bioscience companies present complex work to investors, partners and regulators at the same time. We build sites and web apps that explain the science clearly and keep data handling tight behind the scenes.

Aerospace

Aerospace suppliers need credibility and precision: certification detail, capability pages and secure portals for partners. We build to that standard and document the architecture so audits are not a scramble.

Agriculture and fisheries

Growers, processors and fisheries businesses need tools for yields, traceability and orders, plus a public site that works for wholesale buyers. We build the internal software and the storefront as one connected system.

Process

Working with OlDevs from Charlottetown.

  1. Discover

The first two weeks are questions: what the season does to your traffic, which systems have to connect, and what the first release needs to prove.

  2. Design

We design mobile first, since much of your audience arrives on a phone, and we review every screen against WCAG 2.2 AA before the build starts.

  3. Build

Engineering happens in weekly increments. Each Friday there is something real to open, so nothing waits until the end of the project to be judged.

  4. Launch

Go live is planned around your calendar, not ours. We migrate content, test bookings and forms, and hand over every account and credential.

  5. Grow

We stay on for the season after launch, measuring, refining copy and imagery, and building the next set of features once the data supports them.

FAQ

Charlottetown — questions we hear first.

No. Everyone is based at the Vancouver studio, and we say so plainly rather than listing a virtual address on the Island. Charlottetown engagements are remote, with regular calls and weekly demos, and we fly out when a project genuinely benefits from it.

Charlottetown is four hours ahead of Vancouver, so your afternoon and our morning form the shared window. Calls, demos and approvals are booked there. Everything else runs asynchronously through written updates and a staging environment you can check first thing.

Usually in Canadian hosting regions, and always somewhere you have agreed to before launch. We keep a plain list of every third party involved, from the database to email delivery, and the accounts are yours, so you can audit or move them whenever you like.

Commercial projects fall under PIPEDA, because the Island has no privacy statute of its own covering business, while public bodies are covered by FOIPP. We build the technical side to fit, including consent, access requests and retention, and leave legal advice to your solicitors.

Tourism and hospitality is one of the Island's main sectors, and seasonality changes what a site has to do: bookings that hold up in July, content that stays useful in February, and hosting that copes with a sudden peak. We plan capacity and content for both.

Start by sending a short brief. We answer every enquiry within one business day, meet in your afternoon, and then put a written scope in front of you. Cost follows that scope rather than a number pulled from the air, so the next step is simply to request a quote.
