Retail technology that fills carts and stores

We build the retail systems customers actually touch: store pages that rank locally, stock people can trust, loyalty that works at the till, and clean links into your point of sale and ERP.

Retail, in short

OlDevs is a full-stack technology studio in Vancouver, British Columbia that builds websites, apps and integrations for multi location and independent retailers. Our retail work covers store locator and local landing pages, live inventory visibility, loyalty programmes, and integration with point of sale, ecommerce and ERP systems. We design to WCAG 2.2 AA, ship a working demo every week, and hand over full ownership of code, designs and accounts. Retailers across Canada work with us remotely, with meetings in their own time zone and on-site visits when the work calls for it.

Retail

What makes retail hard to build for

The problems we are asked to solve most often — and how.

01

Stock that lies to customers

Nothing burns trust faster than a product page that promises availability the shelf cannot honour. Feeds lag, reservations expire, and staff take the phone call. We build stock visibility with honest states: in stock, low, and available at a nearby store.

Inventory · POS integration · Customer trust

02

Hundreds of store pages, one team

A chain with fifty locations needs fifty pages that are accurate, indexable and easy for a district manager to edit. Hand built pages rot. We generate location pages from one source of truth so hours, holidays and services stay right everywhere.

Store locator · Local search · Content operations

03

Point of sale that was never meant to talk

Retail POS and ERP systems often expose thin or batch only interfaces, so orders, prices and customer records drift apart. We build a middle layer with queues, retries and reconciliation reports, then agree what wins when two systems disagree.

POS and ERP · Middleware · Data integrity

04

Loyalty nobody actually uses

Points schemes fail when joining takes a form, the card lives in a wallet at home, and staff cannot look anyone up at the till. We design enrolment that takes seconds, identity that works by phone number or pass, and rewards visible in every channel.

Loyalty · Mobile apps · Store experience

05

Franchise brand control without friction

Franchisees want local offers and their own photos. Head office wants one brand, one price list and clean legal copy. We build role based tooling with approved blocks, local fields and an approval trail, so both sides can move without a fight.

Franchise tooling · Permissions · Governance

06

Peak trade with no room for error

Black Friday and Boxing Day arrive on fixed dates, and a checkout that stalls costs the season. We load test against real traffic shapes, cache aggressively, protect the payment path, and rehearse the rollback before the first promotion goes live.

Performance · Peak readiness · Payments

Process

Our retail process

  1. Discovery

We map your estate, systems, channels and trading calendar, then agree what success looks like for both online sales and store footfall.

  2. Architecture

We choose the stack, define integration contracts with POS, ERP and payments, and write down data ownership rules before anyone builds features.

  3. Build in weekly demos

One accountable team ships a working demo every week, so merchandising, operations and finance can react while changes are still cheap.

  4. Pilot in a few stores

We launch with a small group of locations, train staff, watch real transactions, and fix what the pilot teaches before the wider rollout.

  5. Rollout and iterate

We roll out by region, monitor performance and integration health, and keep improving from a backlog shaped by store feedback and analytics.

How we work

How we work with retailers

01

Start in the store

Before design, we watch a shift: how staff use the till, where returns pile up, what customers ask at the counter. That is where most of the useful requirements live.

02

One source of truth for locations

Hours, addresses, services and holiday closures come from one record and flow to location pages, the locator, the app and your listings exports without retyping.

03

Honest inventory

We agree refresh windows and safety thresholds with your merchandising team, then show states customers can act on rather than raw numbers you cannot guarantee.

04

Integration first, features second

POS, ERP and payment connections get built and monitored early, so the front end is never sitting on a connection nobody has tested under real load.

05

Accessible and bilingual by default

We build to WCAG 2.2 AA, and we can deliver English and French together so site copy, receipts wording and in store messaging stay consistent across markets.

06

Marketing tied to footfall

Local search, paid social and analytics are set up to measure store visits and pickup orders, not only online checkouts, so spend follows revenue you can see.

FAQ

Retail — questions we hear first.

Usually yes. We start by auditing what your POS actually exposes: a documented API, a middleware connector, scheduled exports, or nothing at all. From there we build an integration layer that queues, retries and reconciles, with alerts when a sync fails. If the system is closed, we design around it rather than pretending the data is live.

We agree with your merchandising and operations teams how fresh the data really is, then present states rather than exact counts where a count cannot be trusted. Thresholds, buffers and a clear last updated time keep the promise honest. Where the POS supports it, we add soft reservations for click and collect so a picked item does not sell twice.

In most cases yes, because customers and search engines both look for a specific location. The trick is generating those pages from one record so hours, holidays, services and contact details stay accurate everywhere. Managers get a simple editor for local fields, while brand copy, structured data and layout stay under head office control.

Both are valid. If your rules are standard, an existing platform with a good API is often faster, and we integrate it into your site, app and till flow. If your programme depends on your own tiers, partners or franchise economics, a custom build gives you control. We map the trade offs with you first, then you can request a quote for the direction you choose.

Yes. Staff tools are often where the fastest returns sit: stock lookup, transfer requests, click and collect picking, price checks and task lists. We build them for the devices your teams actually carry, with tolerance for back rooms and loading bays where signal drops, and permissions that match your store hierarchy.

Local search is the foundation: accurate location data, pages that answer local intent, and structured data so listings and AI assistants describe your stores correctly. On top of that we run paid social and search geared to store catchments, then measure store visits, pickup orders and calls alongside online revenue so budget follows real results.

We build with Canadian privacy expectations in mind, including PIPEDA and Quebec Law 25 where they apply, and we keep card data out of scope by using a payment provider that carries the PCI DSS obligations. Accessibility rules such as AODA also shape our front end work. We are developers, not lawyers, so your counsel confirms what applies to you.
